From the views of some that come to my page I can only determine that some of you are certifiably insane and I can come to no other conclusion that you hate this country.
There are those of you who insist that we have never used our army to free oppressed people, this could not be farther from the truth, and we have used our military force to help people all over the world.
If you wanted to get technical about it, our military has freed our people and country from the oppressive rule of Britain, if it was not for our military we would not be a country, they are the institution that allowed our country to declare our independence.
We went to war once again in 1898 with Spain over there heavy handed treatment of Cubans, although the main reason for war was the fact that we supported Cuba’s independence from Spain, once again we used our military to free a people.
It’s very obvious that some do not know our military history, and that truly saddens me, if we do not know our history, the honor in which our troops fought and died, than we do them a disservice.
Next in line would be the Civil War, which its main theme was to free the slaves and preserve the Union. The whole civil war was fought by the South to keep its slaves and in the process save its economy, which were entangled.
I suppose that’s not going to be good enough for Tom, I’m sure he would think those fights were not worth it, and that we shouldn’t use our army to help the oppressed people of the world, but we have been for quite some time.
These are a couple of examples of how our military forces have helped free millions of people around the world, which is a just and noble cause.
Now I’ve been called a racist many times by you left wing loons, it doesn’t bother me at all because I know the truth, you call me that with the hope that I’ll be scared or intimidated and that somehow I’ll tow the line with them and forget about our enemies.
If you do not think Islam is our enemy than go to one of those countries, tell them you are an American and see if you make it home.
It’s a sad fact that while not all Muslims are terrorists, all terrorists are Muslims.

RWG -
I think this is a very complex subject. World politics and balance of power politics all come into play.
I think some of your points are valid, but also remember that some wars are also fought to reduce the influence of other rival powers - and that one way of doing this is to help the side fighting to reduce that powers influence.
It would have been in America's interest to try and reduce Spain's influence in the Americas's so that the USA would have more influence. An indepenent Cuba would help this cause.
America also supports dictatorships where it is in their intersts. The USSR supported revolutions by the people of various countries and communist dictator ships in others.
Every world power has used struggles for independence to their own gain - as France did in the American War of Independence. Do you really think France cared about the independence of america, other than it was an opportunity to reduce British power in North America.
Incidently the American War of Independence could very accurately be described as a civil war with many 'Americans' fighting for the British as agains't. The war was also very much about taxation and trade monopolies more than the fight agains't British oppression.
And may I remind you, those first Americans adopted many of the customs and structures of the British society they descended from. Rare for a country so 'oppressed'.
At the same time, I think you have a point, the USA has tended to lean towards a policy of actively trying to promote democracy.
But there are several other factors - such as balance of power, oil supply, trade implications, security implications, destabalising and stabalising effects that all come into account when decisions are made.
I suppose a good way of trying to make my point would be to ask these following questions:
- If Iraq had not been in a region of oil would the interest in Iraq been so great?
- If you think America invaded Iraq to free the people, wwhy did it not invade Saudi Arabia.
- And why not North Korea, Cuba, China and many other countries.
I'm trying to say, that although the fight to expand Democratic rights and freedoms is an aim, it is just one aim amongst many others in American foreign policy; and the other aims are often far more critical when deciding a course of action.
Christ man.. you need English lessons badly. That post is grammatical horror show..
It's also a fantasy.. I'll debunk it on Monday when I get some time.
Ignore the poor English and grammar on this one - but I think I make an interesting assessment.
Tom please stop with those and other stupid comments or I will start to remove your comments.
Hmmm, that would be just about all of them RWG.
LBM makes some great points. There are indeed many factors involved in foreign policy decisions. If the sole reason for invading Iraq was indeed oil, so what? Oil is just about as important to our nation as oxygen.
However, I'd be hard pressed to come up with any real evidence to support the "war for oil" theory on Iraq. Seems like a VERY long term reason, since the oil isn't exactly pouring out of that nation into ours.
I agree, if this is a war for oil, we sure as hell are not seeing vast amounts of it look at our gas prices lol
Wow, a rant supported by nothing other than pointing out the poor typing (or perhaps spelling and grammar) skills of our host. How noble of you tom.
You're going to "destroy this topic?" I await your so, so, enlightened response to the fact that our military has indeed liberated nations (think FRANCE for a bit and you'll get the idea).
I was told by a frenchman on a recent trip that included a stop in that trainwreck, "Fuck you babykiller!" Isn't that sweet? That's how the french repay the thousands of lives that we gave to liberate them from the Nazis. But of course, that would require one to admit that we liberated them.
Once again, don't let something as trivial as the facts get in your way....
I'm oft reminded of a joke: why do the Frency insist upon keeping such large trees on the side of their majore thoroughfaris? So that the Germans can park their tanks in the shade.
I'm sure that it was tolerance and liberal ideals that defeated the Nazis (who were liberals) right?
Sorry about the typos RWG, I guess that makes my points moot....
Not that they'll actually be addressed by tom, or whatever other moonbat that drifts through. Oh yes, they will fire off a resounding "But but but, Bush lied! and Consrvatives want to blow up the earth!" or some such nonsense.
RWG.. please do not delete Tom's comments... it will just enable him to claim that you are unwilling to practice free and open debate.
He has provided us with much high quality debate - that unfortunately is interspersed with insults, name calling and swearing.
His language and actions sometimes reminds me of the question "why are all peace protesters so violent?".
But ultimately the readers of your blog can read all of the comments that are available and make their own judgements.
LBM
his debates are not high quality, he only seems to want to insult me and others who come to this blog and leave comments
If Tom wants to leave a comment, than he can do so without insulting the host.
Guess what, I dont care if my grammer is perfect, who the hell are you to judge me anyways.
Yes, i'm more rightwing that Hugh Hewitt. Did you not see the name rightwing guy lol
