Bush Gives Speech To Nation Regarding Immigration

Well President Bush has given his speech and he is indeed going to send 6,000 troops to the border in a supporting role. He sounded as if he understood what the people want, but only time will tell.
The President said, "One way to help during this transition is to use the National Guard. So in coordination with governors, up to 6,000 Guard members will be deployed to our southern border. The Border Patrol will remain in the lead. The Guard will assist the Border Patrol by operating surveillance systems analyzing intelligence installing fences and vehicle barriers building patrol roads and providing training. Guard units will not be involved in direct law enforcement activities that duty will be done by the Border Patrol. This initial commitment of Guard members would last for a period of one year. After that, the number of Guard forces will be reduced as new Border Patrol agents and new technologies come online. It is important for Americans to know that we have enough Guard forces to win the war on terror, respond to natural disasters, and help secure our border."
Now if this is to free up the border agents so that they will be able to take back the border, I think that the military would be more affective in controlling the area.
The President also said that fences would be involved and an increase in Border Patrol agents, this is going to take time and patience, something very lacking in the Democratic party. What needs to happens is that the Border Patrol and the National Guard need to team up with the Minuteman and make them deputy's than and absorb the member who are qualified. This would be a quick and smart strategy considering that they already doing that job any how. Time will tell, but either way the Dems are going to have a field day with this.
