UN "stands by" while Lebanese die: Arab League

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -
An Arab League delegation accused the Security Council on Tuesday of standing by idly while weeks of fighting between Israel and Lebanon's Hizbollah sow "the seeds of hatred and extremism" in the Middle East.

There was "a danger of civil war in Lebanon" if the council adopted a resolution aimed at ending the conflict without fully considering its ramifications, said Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr al-Thani, the head of a three-man Arab League delegation.

The Arab League team was in New York to ask the 15-nation council to amend a U.S.-French draft resolution aimed at a truce in the four-week conflict.

The delegation flew to New York from an Arab foreign ministers meeting in Beirut on Monday at which Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said the resolution would do little to quell the violence.

The Lebanese Prime Minister was seen yesterday crying while he plead for Arabs leaders to put a stop to the military action taken against Lebanon from the Israeli armed forces, it was all just a show.

Lebanon is and will be at fault and part of the problem until they take control of their country and force Hezbollah to disarm, giving Israel no reason to stay and once again occupy southern Lebanon.

If the government of Lebanon acted forcefully or at all this problem would have not manifested and would not have gotten to the point that is at now.

The left is easy to appease those terrorist who care nothing for them and would rather slice there head off than talk to them, they believe that no fight is valid or worth fighting unless they personally agree with it and it has some way affected them into doing so.

Everyone constantly harps on our country and about the war in Iraq, our President never said this was going to be a cakewalk, he had repeatedly before the invasion say that this would be a long and arduous campaign that would take lots of resolve to finish.

When they talk about this war and the length that is has gone on, they neglect to mention our military campaign in the Philippines which lasted 10 bloody long years, but then we didn’t have people attacking the military and our soldiers on a daily basis as do the lefty newspapers and news channels, aka the New York Times.

Where the hell was the Arab League when this conflict started? Where were they to stop the savage killing of Israeli troops and the abductions? What did they do to prevent and stop rocket attacks from constantly targeting northern Israel? The answer, not a damn thing, and that’s part of the problem.

In the end responsibility for this comes down to Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and Lebanon. Iran and Syria have funded this and directed the military action against Israel; this fact is not open to discussion. Hezbollah is at fault of course because they are the ones who took it upon themselves to attack Israel and kill innocent people, and lastly Lebanon is responsible for this because they are allowing Hezbollah to base itself in its country and have not disarmed them as they were suppose to do under UN resolutions.

I personally do not feel Israel is in the wrong at all, if those 4 entities had prevented this, or had taken actions to cease those activities and return the abducted soldiers, than they would not be in the mess they find themselves in.

Its what news you pay attention to that matters, isn't it?

Is it not obvious that I veiw the wires on a regular basis? Not to mention the other sources of information that I use

I just went back and read some more of your blog. You do seam passionate and good intentioned but you sound alot like Rush Limbaugh. I don't know what to make of the Israeli war but I don't trust the right wing spin they put on it. Looking at the history of the Israeli-Lebanon conflict I don't see how the right wing can say it all started with the kidnapping og the two Israeli soldiers. Hezbolla was created many years ago when Israel invaded Lebanon, 82 I think. I can also answer your question why dems hate Cheney, but should I bother?

No, because I'm sure it would sound something like right out of farenheight 9/11

Yes yes, Israel is grasping at reasons to finally defend herself. They've been MORE than patient and accomodating. Now that they're finally telling the terrorist whacko's to "bite me," they're bad bad bad? I don't think so.

Yes, they had ample opportunity to do so before now, but chose to be more "tolerant." That is the preferred word for rolling over these days isn't it? Just askin'.....

Have at it John, you are right on the money. Terrorists beware, Israel is on the prowl

I say you're Rush and you say I'm Mike Moore. I 'll stop the name calling. I try to understand right wingers. I don't think the Islrealis are "Bad." I do wonder though for every child they kill how many new sworn enemies they create.

Probably one for every hundred of their children that have been killed by the "peace loving" Muslims that surround them. They've merely bent over backwards to give land, and other concessions, to the peace loving Muslims that now shell their neighborhoods on a regular basis (supplied with weapons by yet other peace loving Muslims). Let's not let those little details get in the way of emotion though....

History does repeat itself: Rome around 31AD and Lebanon 2006:

THE PEOPLE WHO WERE NEARLY WIPED FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH, WHO MADE NO EFFORT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, WHO SAW HORROR AIMED AT THEM FOR ONE PURPOSE, HAVE NOW PROVEN THAT THEY, TOO, ARE JUST AS VICIOUS, DOMINEERING, UNCONSCIONABLE, DEMONIC AND BIGOTED, AS THE THIRD REICH’S CLEANSING ACTIONS WERE TOWARD THEM. THE VICTIMS HAVE BECOME THE VICTIMIZERS.

THEY ARE TERRORISTS, RACISTS, AND A DUPLICTOUS RACE THAT DENIED GOD’S VERY SON--BLASPHEMED GOD!

WHY SHOULD WE PERMIT THEM TO COMMIT A HOLOCAUST AGAINST ANYONE? WHAT IS MORE, WHY SHOULD WE HELP MAKE THAT HOLOCAUST BURN MORE INTENSELY?

“NEVER AGAIN,” THE JEWS SAID, BUT IN THE END, THEY TRUMPED THEIR OWN WORDS AND BURNED THE WORLD. TALK IS CHEAP WHEN VENGEANCE IS YOUR FAITH.

Left or Right, Israelis Are Pro-War

JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 — As Israel’s war with Hezbollah finishes a fourth difficult week, domestic criticism of its prosecution is growing. Yet there is a paradoxical effect as well: the harder the war has been, the more the public wants it to proceed.

I think Israel has been tolerant for a long long time. The two kidnapped soldiers were just the final straw. How long can a country put up with suicide bombs and missile attacks before something has to be done.

I dont think any country is 100% perfect - including Israel, USA and the West - countries make mistakes and sometimes carry out actions that don't make us proud. But Israel has come to a point where they feel something needs to be done. Israel is on the front line of a clash of ideas. A clash of Western Ideas of freedom of speech, religion and equality whatever the sex or sexual orientation; and Islamic ideas that see democracy as incompatable with the word of Allah (as written in the Koran) and the suppressed rights of women, non muslims and homosexuals.

I feel that what Israel must do, is still aim to find an equitable settlement for the people of Palestine and create a viable Palestinian State and withdraw entirely from the west Bank. Israel must also try not to alienate the Christian and Druze peoples in Lebanon.

Israel and the West must also be clever politically and make use of the tension between Shia Iran/Hezbollah and Shia ruled Syria as opposed to Sunni Arabia, Jordan and Egypt.

I agree with you and you put your view very well. Do you really think though, after a 2000 year history of conflict, that killing all those Lebanese civilians will solve their problems. You do know, as of 1945, there wasn't an Israel. And, as Sniper says, couldn't they, of all people, use a little more diplomacy and not "Blood and Iron."

I'm thinking rightwing guy wants me off his blog and so this is my last 2 cents.

I do support Israel on this one, but I do feel sympathy for the Palestinians who lived in the area before 1947.

Ironically, Israel/Palestine used to be a British mandate, and in the 1940's there were several Jewish terrorist organisations that used terrorist methods to get the British out.

60 years later Israel is at the receiving end of the same methods. A touch of natural justice maybe, but still I think it's in our interests that Israel wins this one.
