And for the record, many of these "foreigners" are far better Americans than you are. My personal physician is from England, and he's exceptionally bright, educated, and really makes a difference for people. But, then, he's English and white, so that's probably okay.. Right?
Yeah - North America was founded on Northern European ideals of freedom and culture. The rest of the Americas were founded on Hispanic ideals - just comper the two.

Uh.. that makes no sense. You're basically saying that Northern European people are "better" or have "more value" than hispanics? Of course by definition, hispanics have a lot of Spanish influence, and Spain is a European country, but it's different because Spain is Southern European?
What about blacks in America then? They're native to Africa - so they are not as desireable as white northern Europeans?
And so Cubans, being Hispanic, should not be allowed to emigrate to the United States as, say, a German or Frenchman?

Hmm.. okay.. less immigration, which means that wages go up, and inflation goes up - and your rent goes up.. Okay.. you're willing to deal with that, I gotcha.
You think there should be some qualification test then? So, we need to employ some psychics that can tell the government whether or not an immigrant is going to make the country better or go on welfare?
Or - how about we require all of the immigrants to have college degrees? Lets make that retro-active to about say, 30 years ago and kick out all the current Americans without college degrees?
How about we base it on their skin color, or how about an IQ test?
What I'm getting at here, is that you're suggestion of only letting in the ones that will make this country "better" is a complete logical mess because you haven't defined the criteria. You cannot define the criteria because there is no objective standard that could possibly be applied.
And the part that I find hysterical, is that I doubt YOU could pass any standard that you want to set for an immigrant.

A country can set a criteria if it wishes. How about for a start:
- Limit immigration status to Indigenous Northern Europeans and those of European descent in Australia, NZ and Southern Africa.
- No Muslims
- No Africans
- Any others from South America or Southern Europe to have to have strong evidence of benefitting the USA by being allowed to settle there.
Remember Tom, most countirs in the World arn't multi cultural and multi ethnic - just N America and Europe. You will not find much diversity in China or Pakistan!!

The way you make an argument is that you state an objective, you define the criteria, and you analyze the ramifications. Your argument technique is to simply say "I dun like immigrants", uh huh...
For those that did not naturally learn how to form a coherent argument, that's one of the big things they teach you in college - you know, that place you avoided because you didn't need a piece of paper.

Just an F.Y.I., the Attorney General of the United States of America is 2nd generation Hispanic. His family were immigrants, and while I don't agree with his point of view on many things, it's quite apparent his skill set is far more valuable to this nation that most "real" Americans.

More people coming into a country and then getting jobs will generally mean higher rents because of the greater demand.

Prices rarely have one single cause, both inflation and increased demand increase prices.

But the biggest pressure on rents will be the number of people (with money) competing for the limited number of rental properties.
Unless of course you destroy more virgin land by building more properties for your foreign friends to live in.

And if you agree with that, why not let in people from countries with similar values and cultures. You can choose!
Me and you know, an Aussie, Brit, German or Dutchman will find it easier to assimilate into american society than a somalian, iraqi or columbian.
As, a Kenyan, Nigerian or Tanzanian will find it easier to settle in Mozambique.
