It's a bit like negotiating with a mugger, who has tried to rob you at knife point.
It's a bit like never trying to deal with the social issues that cause people to committ crimes. Just build more prisons..
and while the muggers are in prison, alas - they cannot mug.
No no no! We must establish dialog with violent criminals, try to better understand them, release them on furlough so they can kill again....
The difference between a "killer" and a "hero" is merely one's point of view.
Point of view makes all the difference in the world. For example, most right wing nutzoids would be "terrorists" if they were merely born in an Islamic fundamentalist part of the world. It's the same sort of thinking, but from a different point of view.
