Terrorists repelled at U.S. Embassy in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria - Armed Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in a brazen attack Tuesday, the government said. Four people were killed, including three of the assailants.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but an al-Qaida offshoot group was suspected,
Syria's ambassador to the United States said.

No Americans were hurt in the attack, in which the militants used automatic rifles, hand grenades and at least one van rigged with explosives.

The al-Qaida offshoot group, called Jund al-Sham, has been blamed for several attacks in Syria in recent years, the Syrian ambassador, Imad Moustapha, said in comments to CNN.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice praised Syrian security agents for repelling the attack, but added it was too early to know who may have been behind it.

"I think it's very early to try and speculate why this may have happened," said Rice, speaking at a news conference in Nova Scotia Tuesday with her Canadian counterpart, Peter MacKay.

The attackers apparently did not breach the high walls surrounding the embassy's white compound in the city's diplomatic neighborhood.

One of Syria's anti-terrorism forces was killed and 11 other people were wounded, the official news agency reported. The wounded including a police officer, two Iraqis and seven people employed at nearby technical workshop.

First and foremost I am utterly disgusted that the media continues to call these savage terrorists, “militants” or “gunmen” or “insurgents”.

They continue to misrepresent the threat we face in hopes that by not reporting the truth that they will somehow throw a veil over or faces.

They continue so state that the terrorist cells that have been uncovered in this country, England and in Canada poised no serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of Americans and our allies alike.

These terrorist attacks and terror cells are part of a greater effort by Islam to destroy our nation and our way of life, and they cannot be allowed to win under any circumstances.

This latest attack on our embassy in Syria is just another example of the brutality and determination of these brutal savages to impose their strict interpretation of Islam on the rest of the world.

I do believe this attack was timed to make a point on the anniversary of 9/11 especially with this most likely being directed by al-Qaida and carried out by an al-Qaida off shoot group called Jund al-Sham.

If the liberals had their way we would never go and seek those who wish to do us harm until they actually attack us.

This is proven to be totally the wrong way to deal with terrorists and it’s a shame that the Democrats still believe that they can talk and reason with these people who want to behead us all.

President Bush said it best yesterday when he said,” This struggle has been called a clash of civilizations. In truth, it is a struggle for civilization. We are fighting to maintain the way of life enjoyed by free nations. And we are fighting for the possibility that good and decent people across the Middle East can raise up societies based on freedom, and tolerance, and personal dignity.”

I agree with him 100%.

RWG, I agree with the Bush too, about the call of our generation. I don't agree with the way he is prosecuting the war in Iraq. There are some real issues that need to get corrected ASAP, if we are to claim a victory and leave it better than we found it. both Iraq and Afghanistan.
